Parks Alive- a summer of family fun across South Ribble's green spaces

This summer, some of South Ribble’s much loved green spaces will host an exciting programme of brand-new events called Parks Alive.

The ‘Parks Alive’ series of events, will take place from 24 May to 31 August 2026 featuring brass band concerts, outdoor theatre, children's activities and more.

Sunday 24 May

Bubble Blast

  • Worden Park (children's play area)Worden Lane, Leyland, PR25 3DH
  • 12.30pm to 4pm
  • FREE

Get ready for a bubble‑blasting extravaganza at Worden Park! Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of family fun featuring some of the region’s best bubble entertainers. Enjoy interactive shows, playful performances, and hands‑on bubble activities for all ages. And its FREE!

Also on the same day, Picnic Brass will be taking place on the lawns of Worden Hall so why not make a day of it. See below.
 

Picnic Brass 

  • The lawns of Worden Hall, Worden Park, Worden Lane, Leyland, PR25 3DH

Featuring Coppull and Standish Concert Band, bring your picnic and place your blanket on the ground to enjoy live traditional brass band sounds in the lovely surroundings in Worden Park.

Picnic Brass 

  • Farington Park, Farington, Leyland PR25 4AB
  • Performing 2 sets - 1.30pm and 3.00pm 
  • FREE to attend

Featuring Eccleston Brass Band. Bring your picnic and place your blanket on the ground to enjoy live traditional brass band sounds in our lovely park.


Sunday 28 June

The 5-Park Amble 

  • 10.00am to approx. 12.30pm
  • Meet at Hurst Grange Coach House - Hurst Grange Park, Hill Road, Penwortham, Preston, PR1 9XH
  • Free to attend but registration ticket required. Places limited.

A 5 ½ mile walk, led by the Friends of South Ribble Parks, that encompasses some of South Ribble’s finest and interesting parks and urban green spaces. Starting and finishing in Hurst Grange Park, the walk also takes in Middleforth Green, Walton Park, Central Park, Avenham Park and Ribble Sidings.  

Toilets and refreshments located at Hurst Grange Coach House and Avenham Pavilion Café. 

Unfortunately due to steps in some parks, this walk is unsuitable for wheelchairs, mobility vehicles and prams/push chairs.

Saturday 11 July

Shakespeare at Worden Hall

  • Outdoor theatre on the lawns of Worden Hall, Worden Park, Worden Lane, Leyland, PR25 3DH
  • Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet
  • 6pm to 8.45pm  - ticket includes performances of both Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet

A Place for Us Theatre Company present two of the Bard’s most read and loved plays. Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet. 
Prepare for an unforgettable theatrical experience from multi award winning ‘A Place for Us Theatre’ - outdoor theatre at its very best on the stunning lawns of Worden Hall.  

Attendees are required to bring their own chairs/picnic blanket and are welcome to bring their own refreshments. The Clocktower Bar in Worden Hall will be open during the event (card payments only).

Featuring Rivington and Adlington Brass Band. Bring your picnic and place your blanket on the ground to enjoy traditional brass band sounds in our lovely park.


Sunday 16 August

Picnic Brass

  • Withy Grove Park, Bamber Bridge 
  • Performing 2 sets: 1.30pm and 3.00pm
  • Free to attend

Featuring Chorley Silver Band, bring your picnic and place your blanket on the ground to enjoy traditional brass band sounds in our lovely park.


Sunday 23 August

Forest Friend Adventures 

  • Longton Brickcroft Nature Reserve Visitor Centre, Liverpool Rd. Longton. PR4 5YY
  • Session one: 11.00am, Session two: 1.30pm
  • FREE – registration ticket required as places are limited.
    Adults must accompany children. Adults do not require a registration ticket.

Hidden Forest Adventures host two 90 minute woodland based activity camps that include; woodland craft making, scavenger hunting, den building, the mud kitchen and even marshmallow toasting!

Friday 28 August

The Tales of Peter Rabbit - Family Theatre in the Park

  • Outdoor theatre on the lawns of Worden Hall, Worden Park, Worden Lane, Leyland,, PR25 3DH
  • A paid for ticketed event
  • 2pm

The Quantum Theatre Co bring Peter Rabbit and his friends to life on the lawns of Worden Hall. Come and experience live storytelling that’s exciting, playful and engaging- a charming show perfect for all the family. 

Attendees are required to bring their own chairs/picnic blanket, and are welcome to bring their own refreshments, however The Folly Coffee House and Deli is located at Worden Hall.
