Discover Longton

Longton

The village of Longton is one of South Ribble's most naturally beautiful settings, with a rural landscape and areas of woodland.

At the centre of the village is Liverpool Road - the beating heart, connecting Longton with Preston, neighbouring Penwortham and Hoole.

As you approach Liverpool Road, one of the gateways to the village, you are met by a stunning 'Welcome to Longton' sign featuring the native 'Godwit' bird.

The sculpture, featuring the wading bird, was designed by David Palmer complemented by contrasting glass and stainless features installed in the town centre at Longton, and created by DP Structures on Liverpool Road.

These arterial roads connect Longton with surrounding areas which make it a regular route for cyclists travelling north of the river and further into South Ribble.

The village of Longton, which dates back to the 11th century, has been maintained by South Ribble Council since 1974.

A walk along Liverpool Road is the best way to discover Longton as it's a hub for places to eat, drink and shop.

Eateries like Romano's, Lemon Tree and The Golden Ball share the A59 with pubs and cafes like The Ram's Head and The Orchid to make a hotbed for social activity in the village.

Mood is a popular gift shop, selling hand crafted cards and gifts for the home. In addition, the village also boasts a Booths supermarket, Spar and library.

Longton VM sits just off School Lane and plays host to the local bowling league, as well as a social club open seven days a week. The Longton Victory Memorial group is the social club's member group who are responsible for the majority of events that on in the village.
